Foundations laid for £3.5 million development to transform derelict mill site

A former mill site in Colne is being transformed into a £3.5 million new housing development called Langroyd Place, situated between the town and some of Lancashire’s best countryside.
Foundations are now being laid for 32 two and three bedroom family homes and bungalows on the former Oak Mill site alongside Skipton Road.
Oak Mill was demolished in 2013 after it became unsafe and unsightly with broken windows, piles of bricks and overgrown with weeds.
The site has been an eyesore for years at a key gateway in and out of Colne.
Councillor Paul White, Leader of Pendle Council explained:
“It was bringing down an otherwise very attractive neighbourhood and local councillors worked hard to find a way to improve and develop the industrial brownfield site and give it a new lease of life.”
PEARL, the pioneering joint venture company of Pendle Council and local developers and investors Barnfield Construction, stepped in to buy the derelict site and turn it into attractive new housing.
“It’s brilliant that PEARL has been able to buy and develop it to offer more quality housing choice in Pendle,” said Councillor White, who is also a PEARL board member.
“I know the area well and it’s the perfect location offering the best of both worlds.
“The beauty spots of Lake Burwain, Noyna Rocks and Foulridge Wharf along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal are a short walk away and offer outstanding views which I think are among the best in Lancashire,” he stated.
“And it’s convenient for town centre shops, restaurants, bars and theatres whilst being close to Colne’s thriving North Valley Retail Park.
“What a great place to live!” He said.
Tim Webber, Managing Director of Barnfield Construction and a PEARL board member agreed, saying:
“We are breathing new life into the former Oak Mill site with an attractive scheme which will enhance the area and provide a range of great places to live.
“It’s a cul-de-sac which means it’s a perfect setting for families and we’re also building six bungalows which are popular with older people,” he explained.
Langroyd Place enjoys a sunny position with some attractive mature trees at the edge of the site.
“It’ll be a great neighbourhood to live in,” he added.

A show home for Langroyd Place will be opening in Spring 2019 and the government's Help to Buy scheme is available subject to meeting the criteria.
