Pendle Council will not move to four yearly elections

Pendle Council will not be changing its scheme of elections to whole Council elections every four years.
It was proposed that all councillors would come up for election at the same time every four years, rather than by thirds.
But a vote at Tuesday night’s full Council meeting (25 September) did not achieve the majority required by law to make the change.
It needed two thirds of the Council to back the motion but received just over 50%.
This means the Council will stick with the current cycle.
Councillor Paul White, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “Thank you to everyone who responded to our consultation.
“Naturally I’m disappointed that this did not pass because the consultation showed a majority of public support for it.
“My view is it would have saved the Council money."
