Want to build your own home in Pendle?

Published: Monday, 24th September 2018

Anyone who’s ever wanted to build their own home in Pendle is encouraged to register their interest with Pendle Council.

The Council’s Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Register seeks to establish the level of interest, the types of houses people would like to build and the preferred locations.

When plots of Council owned land become available those on the Register will be the first to hear about them and will be given priority to buy one.

Councillor Paul White, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “This is a great opportunity to match people with available land and boost housebuilding locally.

“Custom and self-build homes are often innovatively designed and can be cheaper, greener and more affordable than standard market housing.

“Being on the Register doesn’t guarantee that a suitable plot will become available in your preferred area.

“But it does mean that we can inform you of any opportunities as they come up and understand the demand for self-build in Pendle.”

The Council will refer to the Register when carrying out planning, housing and regeneration functions.

You can join the Register by completing a simple form on the Council’s website –www.pendle.gov.uk/righttobuild

To be entered on the register you must meet a number of eligibility criteria, including the land is for building your sole or main home.

Pendle Council is also keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have suitable sites in the borough for self-build opportunities.

Judith Stockton, Senior Regeneration Officer, said: “The lack of suitable sites has been highlighted as a real barrier to self-build.

“It’s really exciting to be able to give residents who dream of building their own home the opportunity to do so which is why we’re keen to learn about other potential land.”

Anyone who thinks they may have suitable land for self-build projects should contact Judith on (01282) 661040 or email selfbuild@pendle.gov.uk
