The incident happened when 59 year old Mary Jackson of Sabden allowed her dog to get out of control on land where she has a smallholding in Higham at Haddings Head, Guide Lane.

Pendle’s Dog Wardens were alerted to the incident which involved a local walker being pursued by the dog.

It had leapt over a fence from Mrs Jackson’s land onto Croft Top Lane to try and reach the walker.

The walker managed to climb over a wall to safety but the dog continued to threaten her, barking and growling aggressively.

The walker attracted Mary Jackson’s attention but she completely ignored the walker’s plight.

At her recent court appearance, Mrs Jackson was found guilty and was fined £100 and ordered to pay an additional £120 to the victim as well as £400 towards Pendle Council’s prosecution costs.

The district judge at Burnley Magistrates Court also ordered that the dog must be kept on a fixed lead less than one metre long when out in public.

Councillor David Whipp who leads on community safety and neighbourhood services said: “Dangerous dogs are a serious issue and our Dog Wardens have done a good job in securing this prosecution.
