Charities for young people to benefit as legendary northern entertainer comes to Pendle

Legendary northern entertainer Bernard Wrigley will perform Songs, Stories and Silliness at Nelson Cricket Club on Saturday 13 October at 7.30pm.
Known as The Bolton Bullfrog, the folk singer has appeared in TV shows and films from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Phoenix Nights, Dinner Ladies to Brassed Off.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, Councillor James Starkie and Janet Starkie wanted him to bring his unique show to Pendle for a charity fundraiser.
They sent him an invitation to do a ‘Lanky Neght’ in dialect and got a reply which was better than alreet. He’s coming!
The Mayor, Councillor James Starkie said:
“It’ll be our biggest fundraiser so far!”

The Mayoress’ working life has been in education and she’ll be raising money throughout the year for disadvantaged children and young people.
The Mayor explained:
“My wife Janet has a keen interest in promoting children and young people’s resilience, mental and physical health and well-being.”
Janet said:
“My chosen charities are Derian House Children’s Hospice, Home Start, young carers at Burnley and Pendle Council for Voluntary Services, Mind, The Prince’s Trust and Safespace.
The Mayor added:
“Bernard Wrigley is a brilliant northern entertainer!
“Come and enjoy a great night out with us, including a traditional pie and peas supper with the satisfaction that it’s all for charity.”
More about Bernard Wrigley
Singer, actor and comedian Bernard Wrigley started his career in the late 60s, performing in folk clubs with his trusty guitar and concertina.
He has released numerous albums of traditional and his own original songs, stories and monologues.
He played in Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot alongside Mike Harding at the Bolton Octagon.
His TV appearances include playing Dodgy Eric in Phoenix Nights who famously sold club owner Brian Potter a bucking bronco and an obscene bouncy castle and he was the eccentric rocket inventor Barry Clegg in Emmerdale
Other credits include Last of the Summer Wine, Coogan's Run and he appeared as a union official in Brassed Off and played a school teacher in Rita, Sue and Bob Too.
