They’re playing on stage alongside the track at the start of the event, from 6.45pm – 8pm on Friday 21st September.

“We’ve booked musicians and bands and even dancers to keep riders on track to cycle the world distance on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd September,” said organiser Tricia Wilson from Pendle Council.

“We are calling on cyclists to help us clock up a staggering 18,000 miles over 24 hours, - that's the world distance,”  she explained.

Pendle Council has teamed up with Pendle cycling organisation Go Velo for the unique fundraiser in aid of Pendleside Hospice.
The Globe Velo 24 Cycle Challenge will take place from 6pm on Friday 21 September until 6pm on Saturday 22 September at the Steven Burke cycle circuit at Swinden Playing Fields in Nelson.

Lead singer of The Switch, Nick Wood said:
"I've never played on a cycle track.  It'll be an absolute banger!”

“Me and the lads will get on bikes straight after our gig and we can easily clock up 10 miles apiece after the gig – that’s 16 laps.

"We'll clock up a solid 50 miles between us - we’ll be buzzing!” He added.
"We've done a lot for Pendleside Hospice.  We do our bit."

Go Velo Director Kirsti Grayson said: 
“The Switch come from the small village of Trawden where I live, and they have a big following! 

“People can come and spectate and enjoy the gigs, but we want as many as possible to borrow a bike and help us reach the world distance – it all counts!”

More details are available on www.pendle.gov.uk/cycling including a link to Eventbrite to register to take part in the overnight challenge between 10.30pm and 10.30am. 

The rest of the time between 6pm to 10.30pm on Friday and 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday people can just turn up, pay £5 towards the Hospice, get kitted up with a transponder, get on a bike and pedal as many laps as they want to.

Friday 21 September

6.45pm – 8pm   The Switch will perform modern covers including Arctic Monkeys,  Kaiser Chiefs and Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Oasis mixed in with their own brand of original music.

8pm – 9pm  Glowstick Fusion led by Encore Dance School Colne will lead an easy to follow dance routine in the dark illuminated by glow sticks.  Bring your own or buy some on the night – it’ll be great for all the family.       

Saturday 22 September

12 noon  - 12:50   Mollie Jesson, a 16 year old singer/songwriter from Barnoldswick will play acoustic guitar and keyboard.

1pm – 1.50pm   Kelsie McArdle, a young singer and guitarist from Barnoldswick will perform at the event.
2pm – 2.50pm   OdAll  are two local lads from Pendle who will play acoustically – with vocals, guitar and Cajon drum.
3pm – 3.50pm  Surf, a 3-piece band from Burnley will play covers including Catfish & The Bottlemen mixed in with some originals.

4pm – 4.50pm  Rock god Rob Wells will perform music with attitude and soul.  

Rob Wells says “You can dab, mosh and you can slosh.   Come in your bell bottoms, flower power shirt or ball gown – I don’t care just as long as you’re there!”

5pm – 6pm  Alexander & Tristesse.

Tricia Wilson said:  “They are an acoustic act from Colne, influenced by Aztec Camera and 40s and 50s classics. 

“Tess is also a Lady Gaga tribute artist and the duo will perform for our important final hour of the challenge!”
