Flying the flags for Pendle's parks!

Eight out of eight of Pendle’s Green Flag parks have kept their prestigious status, it’s been announced, at the official awards ceremony in Dewsbury on Monday 16 July.
“What a wonderful way to celebrate national Love Your Parks week,” said Councillor Paul White, Leader of Pendle Council.
“It’s fantastic that we’ve been recognised for meeting the high standards demanded by Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag award scheme,” he said.
“And our success is thanks to the hard graft from our staff and teams of Park Friends and volunteers who make our parks special places for local people and visitors to enjoy,” he explained.
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd agreed, saying:
“Each flag honours the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”
The international award, now into its third decade, shows which parks and green spaces have the highest standards.
The eight parks in Pendle which have been recognised as being well managed and maintained and with good facilities are:
• Marsden, Victoria and Walverden Parks in Nelson
• Barrowford Park
• Alkincoats Park, Colne
• Ball Grove Park, Trawden
• Heyhead Park in Brierfield
• Valley Gardens in Barnoldswick.
Kieron Roberts from Pendle Council said:
“We’re all working hard to preserve the parks which are valuable green spaces for our community.
“We do the best we can with the resources we have but we know the parks aren’t perfect!
“We urge more people to become volunteers to help give our parks the TLC they need!
“People can help in so many ways, from improving our parks’ natural habitats to litter picking, tree and bulb planting and running events which enhance people’s appreciation of our parks.

Councillor White added:
“Our parks are a huge asset for Pendle, as people of all ages can enjoy them for free - come and explore them.
“Parents looking for free activities and facilities for the summer holidays, such as tennis and bowling, trails, play areas and picnic areas can find out more on our website.
“And there are great park cafes at Ball Grove, Alkincoats and Victoria Parks plus we have a small café opening at Marsden Park in the next month,” he said.
Pendle’s Green Flag parks were among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that received a prestigious (Green Flag Award / Green Flag Community Award) – the mark of a quality park or green space, on Monday 16 July.
