Canvassers are now visiting Pendle homes

Canvassers working for Pendle Council have begun delivering annual canvass forms to homes across Pendle.

And you’re urged to complete your form and return it as soon as possible to continue to have your say on the things that matter to you.

Gillian Turpin, Pendle Council’s Elections and Registration Manager, said: “The electoral canvass is part of the annual voter registration process.

“Every year you must check that your details are correct on the form and update them if necessary. If you don’t, you risk losing your right to vote.”

If the details are all correct you can confirm them by calling a freephone number, sending a text message or visiting the dedicated website – details of these are printed on the forms.

You can also update the details of people living at your property via the website.

It couldn’t be more convenient as telephone, text and internet registration are all available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Alternatively, you can use the more traditional method of signing and returning the form in the post.

If you find any incorrect details on the form other than the names of people at your address, you have to write in the changes, sign the form and return it to us by post. You don’t need a stamp.

Gillian added: “If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form.

“If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post.

“In any case, you will still need to complete the form and send it back to us.”

Anyone who has moved address recently is particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form and check the details.

Research by the independent Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.

If your name is not included in the register, you will not be able to vote in elections. You may also find it difficult to get a mortgage or credit, or to open a bank account.
