Councillors to consider selling three Nelson buildings

Councillors will discuss the future of Number One Market Street, The ACE Centre and Elliott House at next week’s Policy and Resources Committee.
The three Nelson town centre administrative buildings are under consideration following the change in political leadership at Pendle Council.
Councillor Paul White, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “We’re proposing to sell the buildings to meet one of our objectives of reducing the Council’s external debt.
“We made a commitment to the people of Pendle that we would sell off underused buildings in Nelson and we’re determined to deliver on that.”
The report recommends that further work be carried out, including getting independent valuations of Number One Market Street and Elliott House to determine how viable the sales would be.
The two buildings are largely occupied by Council and Liberata staff.
The report recommends that councillors defer any decision on the ACE Centre pending a resolution of matters linked to Pendle Leisure Trust which occupies most of the building.
If at the meeting on Tuesday 26 June the Committee wishes to proceed with the sales, full Council approval would be needed as this is a significant change of policy.
