You can still vote in elections to Pendle Council on Thursday 3 May even if you can’t make it to a polling station on election day.

If you’re unable to vote in person, now’s the time to request your postal or proxy vote.

Having a postal vote, or sending someone else to the polling station as a proxy to vote on your behalf, means you can still have your say in elections.

Gillian Turpin, Pendle Council’s Elections Manager, said: “If you’d like to vote by post or by proxy this year and you haven’t already set this up, you’ll need to send in an application form in the next few weeks.

“You can apply for postal or proxy votes for a single election on a specific date, a specific period or permanently.

“The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Wednesday 18 April and for proxy voting applications it’s 5pm on Wednesday 25 April.”

Application forms to appoint a proxy or to request a postal vote are available to download from Pendle Council’s website -www.pendle.gov.uk/absentvoters

Forms can also be requested from our Elections Office at Nelson Town Hall - call (01282) 661662 or email elections@pendle.gov.uk.

Pendle residents have until midnight on Tuesday 17 April to get on the electoral register to be eligible to vote in the local elections on 3 May.

Our Elections Office can check if you are on the electoral register and therefore able to vote.

You can also check the register yourself in the Council’s contact centre, Contact Pendle, in Number One Market Street, Nelson.

And you can view it at Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick libraries.

If you’re not already on the register, registering to vote is easy and can be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You'll just need to have your National Insurance number to hand.

Alternatively, residents can call Pendle Council’s elections team on (01282) 661919 or 661662 for help.
