Congratulations to our Art for Pendle winners!

Primary schools across the borough took part in an art competition which celebrates what makes Pendle special.

It was organised by Pendle Council to highlight why the area is a hidden gem and a great place to live, work, play and visit.

After watching This is Pendle, a film commissioned by the Council and Pendle Vision Board, youngsters created a piece of artwork to show what they like best about the area.

His Worship the Mayor, Councillor David Whalley, was joined by the Mayoress, his wife Barbara, to judge the entries.

Together they looked at more than 150 entries and two pieces of artwork really shone out.

Councillor David Whalley, said: “Thank you to everyone who entered our art competition.

“We had two categories to encourage infants and juniors to enter.

“We were blown away by some of the entries. Many were outstanding and very imaginative, making it very difficult to pick a winner for each category.

“The winning artwork were both very well thought out and really portrayed why they think Pendle is special.”

Nine year old Abeeha Ahmed from Lomeshaye Junior School, Nelson, and six year old Blossom Harrison from Park Primary School, Colne, were presented with a £30 amazon voucher each by the Mayor and Mayoress.

Mayoress, Barbara Whalley added:  “We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this competition.

“We were thrilled to be able to go in to the schools and surprise the winners with their prizes.”
