Pendle Council is reminding residents to check they are on the electoral register ahead of the elections in May.

On Thursday 3 May there will be elections to Pendle Council and residents have until midnight on Tuesday 17 April to get on the electoral register.

There are elections in 16 Council wards. But this year there will be none in Blacko and Higherford, Foulridge, Higham and Pendleside and Old Laund Booth.

If your name isn’t included on the register, you won’t be able to vote in elections. You may also find it difficult to get a mortgage or credit, or to open a bank account.

Gillian Turpin, Pendle Council’s Elections Manager, said: “These elections are an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who represents you on issues that directly affect day-to-day life here in Pendle.

“But if you’re not registered by 17 April, you won’t be able to vote.”

Registering to vote is easy and can be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. It takes just five minutes.

Gill added: “If you’ve turned 18, or if you have moved home recently, it’s particularly important that you act to ensure that you are registered.

“If you were eligible to vote in last year’s general election and your details have not changed, you will still be registered to vote.”

You can check the electoral register in Number One Market Street, Nelson or view it at Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick libraries.

Alternatively, call the elections office on (01282) 661662 and staff in our Elections Team will check it for you.
