National scheme offers better access to affordable home insurance

Pendle residents and businesses in high flood-risk areas now have better access to affordable home insurance.

Pendle residents and businesses in high flood-risk areas now have better access to affordable home insurance.

Flood Re, a not-for-profit scheme jointly run by the Government and insurance industry, launched in April to give those eligible an opportunity to get cheaper insurance policies.

Councillor David Whipp, who leads on flooding issues in Pendle, said: “After flooding, insurance prices and excesses can often become unaffordable.

Flood Re is a national scheme which is directly accountable to Parliament and is funded from a levy on insurance companies.

“This means insurance companies can insure themselves against losses because of flooding and residents and businesses in flood risk areas can access affordable insurance.”

As well as offering better insurance deals, Flood Re helps people to find out what their flood risks are and ways to reduce them.
