Local people keen to have a say can fill in a survey about the proposals by 24th January and are invited to attend a public meeting at Colne Muni on  Monday 18th December at 7pm.

Pendle Council’s leader, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, will be taking part in the public meeting, alongside Deputy Leader, Councillor Tony Greaves.

Councillor Iqbal explained:

“The Trust’s annual grant from Pendle Council has reduced by £1m since 2010/11 due to reductions in government funding to Pendle Council which have totalled £7million since 2010.

“And ongoing government funding reductions mean that Pendle Council needs to reduce its overall spending by around £4m over the next three years.

“Unfortunately this means we are forced to make a further cut in the grant to Pendle Leisure Trust of £150,000 for  the financial year 2018/19,” he said.

Pendle Leisure Trust’s proposals for the sports hall include:

• A brand new, state-of-the-art fitness studio                            • A children’s soft play area

• Refurbishment of the current dry side changing rooms         • Refurbishment of the existing reception area

• Introduction of a food and drink facility

If the plans do go ahead,  virtually all activities and customers currently using the existing sports hall will be relocated to West Craven Sports Centre, Barnoldswick or to Primet Sports Hall, Colne.
Alison Goode, Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust said:

“Pendle Leisure Centre used to be a thriving hub for sporting activities.

But over the years, the sports hall has seen a decline in usage and is not now used to its full potential.

Alison Goode added: “We carried out a lot of research and we feel our proposals provide a positive option to enhance the existing centre and facilities, whilst bridging the gap in our funding.”
