The RSPCA has awarded Pendle Council’s dog wardens with a gold pawprint for the ninth year in a row!

Councillor David Whipp, who represents Neighbourhood Services said:

“This means our team is among the best in the UK.”

“They care for over 200 stray dogs a year and run educational sessions in schools about responsible dog ownership.

“They also organise free micro-chipping drop-ins with the Dogs Trust to help dog owners stay within the new law, which came in last year.” he explained.

“Dog owners risk a £500 fine if their dogs aren’t chipped,” he warned.

Dog owners are welcome to bring their pets to the next free microchipping and health check event which Pendle Council is running with the Dogs Trust.

it includes a free check your chip service, basic health check and free nail clipping.

The event is on Tuesday 21 November at Victory Park Pavilion between 12 noon – 3pm on Westclose Road which is off Skipton Road, Barnoldswick BB18 5EN.

Dog Warden Laura Robinson added:

“Microchipping a dog is a permanent way of identifying your pet if they get lost.

“A microchip is the size of a grain of rice under the dog’s skin and when a dog goes missing we can scan the microchip and get them home safely,” she said.

Dogs brought to this community event must be wearing a collar and be on a lead and with someone who is 18 years or over.

Any puppies up to the age of six months must be fully vaccinated and carried and the Dogs’ Trust will need proof of address.
