Councillor David Clegg who leads on refuse and recycling services said:

“Please keep your calendar safe because it has all your collection dates for the coming year including changes to our services this Christmas and New Year.

“It’s also a reminder to recycle it right so that people can recycle more for Pendle,” he said.

Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste and Recycling Co-ordinator said:

“We are trying to make sure we only collect the things that we can recycle. Our brown bins are for plastic bottles, cans/tins and glass bottles/jars only.”

“The new calendar also flags up the important news that collections may change some time during 2018,” warned Councillor Clegg.

“We have to save around £300,000 on refuse and recycling collections due to ongoing reductions in our funding from the government totalling £7 million since 2010,” he explained.

“And from 1st April 2018 we’ll no longer get Lancashire County Council’s annual subsidy of £760,000 towards the cost of our waste and recycling service,” he said.

Over 1,700 local residents have already given their views on proposals to change bin collections to help councillors make some difficult decisions about services.

“It’s not too late to fill in the short survey on our website www.pendle.gov.uk  as the deadline is Sunday 26th November,” said Councillor Clegg.

“The recycling and refuse collection calendar is not only about the dates -it also has useful advice and  flags up additional services,” added Carole.  

These include:

• A warning to avoid the risk of a fine if you’re having rubbish removed for you – you’re responsible if someone fly tips your waste!
   
• What you can recycle at Lancashire County’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres
   
• How Pendle Council can help by taking your bulky household waste away for free
   
• A useful DIY waste collection service, including clearing old kitchen units, bathroom suites and rubble
   
• Gardening services including removing and recycling all garden waste.
