The event, on Tuesday 14 November at 6 – 8pm at Christ Church on Carr Road, Nelson,
includes a talk by International dementia expert, Dr Penny Foulds.

Paul Gauntlett, Pendle’s Dementia Action Alliance Chair, said:

“Around 4,000 people in Pendle are affected by dementia - either living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia. And that figure is growing.

“That’s why we’re running this free public event for anyone concerned about dementia, including carers and family members as well as health and social care professionals.”

Dr Foulds, founder of the Defying Dementia campaign, will share the latest research into dementia.

This will include findings shared at a dementia conference she attended in Boston, Massachusetts, this month.

“People can also get advice from a range of local organisations who’ll be there for the event and pick up a free directory listing services and support available in Pendle”, explained Paul.

Paul explained: “Like so many people, I have family members who live with dementia so I understand some of the issues and difficulties that people with dementia face, and their families and carers.”

Pendle’s Dementia Champion, our Mayor, Councillor David Whalley said:

“Pendle’s Dementia Action Alliance is all about making it easier for people to get the help they need.

“Pendle Council understands the value of the work the Alliance does and supports their efforts.”

Paul added:

“We’re grateful for the tremendous support we get from the private, voluntary and public sector and is especially to Pendle Council for helping to co-ordinate the work of the Alliance,” he added.

This event follows three successful public awareness events run by Pendle’s Dementia Action Alliance over the last 12 months.
