Dean Langton, Pendle Council’s Strategic Director and Head of Paid Service, is leaving his position in January next year.

He will be joining Harrogate Borough Council as Head of Finance.

Dean has been Strategic Director since April 2015, following the restructure of Pendle Council’s Senior Management Team which saw the removal of the role of Chief Executive.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “Firstly, I’d like to congratulate Dean on his appointment with Harrogate Council, though this is very sad news for Pendle.

“Dean’s made a real difference in Pendle since he joined us in 2006, but more so over the last two and a half years as Strategic Director.

“He’s helped the Council to manage the many challenges we’ve faced during this period of austerity.

“I understand and fully respect his reasons for leaving are personal – he wanted to take up a post closer to home.”

Councillor Tony Greaves, Deputy Leader and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, added: “The fact that Pendle has so far been able to continue to provide its services with little effect on local people, in spite of the horrific spending cuts that have been imposed on it, is very much due to the work of Dean and Head of Finance, Vince Green.”

Councillor Joe Cooney, Leader of the Conservative Group, was also sad to hear of Dean’s departure.

He said: “I’ve immensely enjoyed working with Dean over the last two and a half years.

“He’s earned the respect of councillors and staff for what he has achieved whilst working for Pendle Council.”

Speaking on his resignation, Dean said: “I’ll be very sorry to leave Pendle and the brilliant team of managers and staff who work really hard and do a fantastic job with the limited resources available.”

Pendle Council also announces that Vince Green, Head of Finance, will be leaving at the end March 2018.

Vince has enjoyed a long and successful career in accountancy - 32 years of which have been in Local Government.

With both positions becoming vacant, the future senior management of the Council will be reviewed.
