Success of the Mayor’s Sunset to Sunrise Fundraiser

Mayor stays awake from sunset to sunrise to raise money

His Worship the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Nawaz Ahmed, has completed a unique fundraising event for his Charity Appeal Fund.

He stayed up for from sunset on Tuesday 10th May until sunrise on Wednesday 11th May.

His eight hour vigil, outside Number One Market Street, opposite Nelson Town Hall, lasted from 8.45pm to 5.30am when the sun rose.

The Mayor said:

“I’d like to thank everyone who sponsored me for my Sunset to Sunrise Fundraiser.

“Thanks to the generosity of Pendle people we were able to raise the staggering figure of over £2,400 for good causes!”

Plenty of people came over to see The Mayor during his overnight fundraiser, including some who came at 3am to keep him company! 

And the Mayor of Pendle was also joined by The Mayor of Brierfield, Councillor David Brown.

The Mayor’s chosen charities which will benefit from his overnight vigil are Help for Heroes, Pendleside Hospice and the Royal British Legion Nelson and District branch.
