Pendle Council to consider suggested sites for development

Following a six week public consultation Pendle Council has received more than 150 additional suggestions for sites that could be developed for housing or employment.
The new sites were put forward by local residents, landowners and developers for consideration in spring this year.
The Council will now carry out a detailed assessment of more than 300 sites before publishing the first draft of its new Local Plan for further comments in 2018.

Councillor Julie Henderson, who oversees planning in Pendle, said: “Before taking any decisions, we’ll carefully consider the economic, social and environmental impacts of any development proposals.
“There is no guarantee that any site will be taken forward.
“Even those sites recommended for allocation in the Local Plan will be subject to further public consultation before it’s submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination.
“We expect the public consultation on the first draft of the Local Plan will take place in early summer next year.”
The Core Strategy, which was adopted in December 2015, indicates that 5,662 new homes need to be provided in Pendle between 2011 and 2030.
Any new homes built since April 2011, together with any long-term empty homes that have been brought back into use, are taken off this figure.
The strategic housing site at Trough Laithe Farm, between Nelson and Barrowford, can accommodate approximately 500 new homes, so the Council is looking to find land for around 2,500 new homes.
Similarly, of the 68 hectares required for employment, just over four hectares needs to be allocated.
