Gardening weather reminder to renew for garden waste collection

Published: Monday, 16th May 2016

Hanna, a keen gardener, is one of Pendle Council's garden waste collectors

“Gardening weather is here at last!” Said Carole Taylor, Pendle Council’s Waste Management Co-ordinator.

“That’s why we’re reminding people to renew their subscriptions for our garden waste collection,” she said.

Over the last four weeks, Pendle Council has been sending letters out to nearly 8,000 garden waste subscribers asking if they want to renew.

Everyone who paid in 2015/16 should have had a letter by mid May.
“So far, well over 2,000 people have renewed and we’re urging people who love to garden and recycle to sign up, to avoid missing out on the fortnightly collection service,” said Carole.

Subscriptions for the next twelve months of the service which runs from 1st July 2016 until 30th June 2017 need to reach the Council by Friday 17th June.

“It’s been a very popular service and costs less than 60p a week as the annual subscription is £30 per green bin” said Carole.
The easiest way to pay is online at www.pendle.gov.uk/gardenwaste  quoting the individual garden waste reference number in the letter.

This year subscribers can also use our automated telephone payment system by calling 01282 661743 and then when prompted pressing 1 to pay, via a credit or debit card.

Everyone who joins the scheme will get a sticker around 2 weeks  after paying to put on their green bin to make sure the Council collects the garden waste for recycling from 1st July.

“We know that thousands of people in Pendle who love to garden are keen for us to recycle their garden waste,” said Carole.
“We collect almost 3,000 tonnes of garden waste a year which is recycled into compost, helping us recycle more for Pendle,” she said.
