Love our parks! Celebrating Pendle’s Green Flag success

Published: Tuesday, 25th July 2017

Park Friends and Pendle Council staff celebrated Pendle’s Green Flag success by raising one of the prestigious flags at Victoria Park Pavilion, Nelson during national Love Your Parks week.

Councillor Mohammed Arshad who leads on parks announced: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been recognised for our wonderful parks, meeting the high standards demanded by Tidy Britain’s Green Flag Award scheme.

“We entered eight parks for the prestigious Green Flag awards and eight out of eight parks retained their awards.”

The eight parks which have been recognised as being well managed and maintained and with good facilities are:

  • Marsden, Victoria and Walverden Parks in Nelson
  • Barrowford Park
  • Alkincoats and Ball Grove Parks in Colne
  • Heyhead Park in Brierfield
  • Valley Gardens in Barnoldswick.

Pendle’s Mayor, Councillor David Whalley and his wife Barbara, Mayoress of Pendle, attended the flag raising and have chosen all Pendle’s Park Friends groups for their charity fundraising this year.

“The awards are a great tribute to our hard-working staff, dedicated Park Friends and volunteers who make a big difference.  We are supporting their efforts,” said Councillor Whalley.

“Our parks are great but they aren’t perfect and there’s always loads to do!

“If anyone would like to volunteer to help please visit www.pendle.gov.uk/parks to find out more or get in touch with our parks staff on (01282) 661600.

“They are a huge asset for Pendle as people of all ages can enjoy them for free and I urge people to come and explore all our parks.

“Parents looking for free activities and facilities for the summer holidays, such as tennis and bowling, trails, play areas and picnic areas can find out more on our website.”

Youngsters can enjoy exploring a free Vicky Witch Trail at Victoria Park Nelson.
