Around 64% of residents already pay this way but Pendle Council wants even more households to make the switch.

Direct Debit’s the easiest and most convenient way to pay bills and it’s the cheapest way of collecting council tax.

Nigel Wilkinson of Reedley Grove, Reedley, was drawn at random from thousands of Direct Debit payers.

Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council and digital champion, said: “We launched the prize draw to encourage people to sign up to Direct Debit using our convenient council tax online service.

“As a thank you, anyone who already paid their council tax this way was automatically entered into the draw along with those who made the switch during our campaign.

“Congratulations to Mr Wilkinson!”

Nigel said: “I’ve paid my council tax by Direct Debit since I moved to Pendle Council many years ago.

“I find it’s a more convenient way to pay my bills because it means I can manage my monthly outgoings better.”

Council tax online is available on Pendle Council’s website –www.pendle.gov.uk/counciltaxonline

It’s a quicker and easier way to:

  • keep us up-to-date with any changes in your circumstances
  • apply for a single person discount
  • set up to pay by Direct Debit
  • sign up for e-billing
  • check how much you owe
  • make payments.

Councillor Iqbal added: “It costs the Council less than 2p to process a Direct Debit payment, significantly less than most other methods of payment.

“And it means we spend less time and money chasing late payments.

“There are also many benefits for residents using Direct Debit to pay bills.

“It offers a safe, secure and convenient payment method and as long as there’s enough money in your bank account you shouldn't ever miss a payment.”
