Less than one week left to register to vote in the general election

With less than one week to go until the deadline to register to vote in the general election, Pendle Council is urging residents to make sure they’re registered in time.
On Thursday 8 June voters will go to the polls to elect their Member of
Parliament.
Anyone who wants to have their say must be on the electoral register by
midnight on Monday 22 May.
You can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.
All you need is your National Insurance number to hand.
If you’re already registered to vote and haven’t moved since, you don’t need to
re-register to vote in the general election.
Gillian Turpin, Elections and Registration Manager for Pendle Council, said:
“Research indicates that recent home movers in particular are less likely to be
registered to vote.
“Often people think that applying to pay council tax means they’re added to the
electoral register too, but that is not the case.
“If you’ve moved house in the past few months make sure you take five minutes
and go online to register to vote now.”
If you’re unable to vote in person on 8 June, you can apply for a postal or
proxy vote.
Voting by post is an easy and convenient alternative to voting in person. The
deadline to apply to vote by post is 5pm on Tuesday 23 May. You
can download a form from Pendle Council’s website – www.pendle.gov.uk/postalvote
Proxy voting allows you to nominate someone else to cast your vote for you. The
deadline to apply to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May.

Gillian added: “The general election registration deadline is fast approaching.
“With just less than a week to go, I’d urge everyone to register to vote by 22
May to make sure your voice is heard in June.
“This election is an opportunity to have your say on who will represent you at
a national level.
“We don’t want anyone to miss out on this opportunity.”
