Reminder to check that you’re on the electoral register

Published: Monday, 3rd April 2017

Pendle Council is reminding residents to check they are on the electoral register ahead of May’s elections.

On Thursday 4 May there will be elections to Lancashire County Council. No Borough Council elections are taking place this year.

Residents have until Thursday 13 April to get on the Register of Electors to be eligible to vote.

If your name isn’t included on the electoral register, you simply won’t be able to vote.

You can check the electoral register in Number One Market Street, Nelson as well as in Barnoldswick Council Shop.

You can also view it at Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick libraries.

Alternatively, call the elections office on (01282) 661662 and staff in our Elections Team will check it for you.

Gillian Turpin, Pendle Council’s Elections Manager, said: “By checking if you’re on the register you’ll ensure you can have your say at the County Council elections in May.”

Registering to vote is easy and can now be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

You’ll just need your National Insurance number to hand.

You can still vote in May’s elections even if you can’t make it to a polling station on election day.

If you’re unable to vote in person, now’s the time to request your postal or proxy vote.

The deadline for postal voting applications is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April and for proxy voting applications it’s 5pm on Tuesday 25 April.

Application forms to appoint a proxy or to request a postal vote are available to download from Pendle Council’s website -www.pendle.gov.uk/absentvoters

Forms can also be requested from our Elections Office at Nelson Town Hall - call (01282) 661662 or email elections@pendle.gov.uk.
