Be ready to use your vote!

Published: Monday, 25th April 2016

Pendle Council is encouraging residents to use their votes in next week’s elections.

On Thursday 5 May there will be Pendle Borough Council and Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

There are elections in 16 Borough Council wards. But this year there will be none in Blacko and Higherford, Foulridge, Higham and Pendleside and Old Laund Booth wards.

The Police and Crime Commissioner election will take place in all wards across Pendle.

Gillian Turpin, Pendle Council’s Elections Manager, said: “It’s so important that everyone who is registered to vote uses that vote on election day, Thursday 5 May.

“This is your chance to have a say on the local councillors who represent you on a whole range of issues affecting your everyday life, as well as who takes up the post of Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire.”

Polling stations will be open on Thursday 5 May between 7am and 10pm.

Gillian added: “To find out who is standing for election in your part of Pendle and to find your polling station, go to www.pendle.gov.uk/elections

“On the website there’s also a step by step guide of what to do if you’re a first time voter, or haven’t voted in a while and need a bit of a reminder.

“Our polling station staff will also be happy to explain things to you on election day.

“But please remember to go to the polling station printed on the poll card that was delivered to your home – you can’t choose where to go to cast your vote.”

The count of the Borough Council and Police and Crime Commissioner votes will take place on Friday 6th May. Results will be posted that day.

All the results will also be published on the Council website www.pendle.gov.uk shortly after each count.
