You don’t need to register twice to vote

Published: Wednesday, 20th April 2016

Residents who’ve registered to vote in the Pendle Council and Police and Crime Commissioner elections on 5 May don’t need to register again to vote in the EU referendum in June.

That’s the message from Pendle Council’s Elections Manager who has received a number of enquiries from residents about whether they need to register twice to vote.

Gill Turpin, Elections Manager, stressed: “If you’ve already registered to vote in the May elections you don’t need to register again unless your circumstances have changed.

“But if you haven’t registered to vote and want to have your say in the EU referendum, you must register by 7 June.”

The referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union, or EU, will take place on Thursday 23 June.

You can check if you’re on the electoral register in the Council’s contact centre, Contact Pendle, in Number One Market Street, Nelson as well as in Barnoldswick Council Shop.

You can also view it at Nelson, Colne and Barnoldswick libraries.

Alternatively, call the elections office on (01282) 661662 and staff in our Elections Team will check it for you.
Registering to vote is easy and can be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
