Pendle Council in first wave of new starter home scheme

Pendle Council is one of 30 local authorities to be given access to the government’s £1.2 billion Starter Homes Land Fund to push the creation of starter homes by 2021.
The Council will form a partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to identify appropriate sites and the level of funding needed to make them ready for development.
The sites will largely be brownfield but consideration will be given to greenfield sites.
Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “It’s great news that we’ve been chosen but we’re waiting for further details.
“The Council put forward a very strong bid to access this Fund and I’m delighted that we’ve been selected to work with the HCA to boost the creation of new homes in the borough.
“The starter homes will help first time buyers get on the property ladder.
“Pendle is a fantastic place to live and it means that young people will be able to put down roots here.”
The Council will make a final decision on the use of the Fund once it knows the full details of its terms and conditions.

The Homes and Communities Agency received 79 expressions of interest from 120 local authorities across the England, outside London.
The £1.2 billion Starter Home Land Fund was established in April 2016 to support the acquisition, remediation and de-risking of suitable land for starter home developments.
