Land at Carr Road Nelson could be sold

Land at Carr Road Nelson could be sold if councillors at this week’s Executive agree to declare the land surplus to requirements.
The Nelson Committee agreed a resolution on 7th November to declare this land surplus to requirements as it has the potential to be sold for an alternative use.
The Executive will make the final decision on the site, which is between Victoria Park and the M65 motorway bridge, on 8th December.
The empty site is just over 10,000 square feet in size.
Leader of Pendle Council, Councillor Iqbal, leads on economic development. He explained:
“This piece of land is only used for 18 days a year in total for the funfair and the circus.
“Most of the time the land is completely empty and unused and we’ve had a number of enquiries from businesses interested in buying the land for commercial use.
“Given the apparent demand for this prime position site, it makes sense for the Executive to consider selling the land for a permanent use,” he said.
“Given that Pendle Council is faced with making savings of over £1.017 million in 2017/18, the sale of this piece of land would help us balance the books,” added Councillor Iqbal.
If the Executive agrees, the Council will apply for a change of planning permission for the site from open greenspace to land for commercial use.
“A change in planning permission would mean the site could be put up for sale for commercial development, adding to Pendle’s portfolio of sites which help boost the area’s economy,” stated Councillor Iqbal.
