Eligible households are set to receive their £150 energy bills Council Tax rebate from Pendle Borough Council in May.

This is one of the measures announced by the Government to help households with rising energy bills for homes in Council Tax bands A-D.

The Council is encouraging residents to sign-up to pay by Direct Debit so that households can get the rebate more easily.

Rose Rouse, Chief Executive, said: “Thank you to everyone who already pays their Council Tax by Direct Debit or if you’ve recently made the switch to pay this way.

“It means we have your bank details so we can automatically pay the £150 into your bank account.

“If you don’t pay by Direct Debit, we’ll be contacting you to get your bank details.

“Please try your very best not to contact us to chase this payment as this just slows us down and we don’t know the specific detail of the scheme yet. We will be in touch.”

Currently more than 64% of households pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit – it’s a faster and more secure way to pay.

And since March 2021, 1,400 people have made the switch.

It’s quick and easy to set up to pay by Direct Debit via the Council’s website. You can do this by registering for an account or signing into Council Tax online and opting to pay by Direct Debit.

There will be some extra funding to help people who don’t pay Council Tax and those who are on low incomes with homes in Council tax bands E-H.

The Council’s website will be updated as soon as the information is available.

Anyone who is struggling to pay their Council Tax should contact the Council straight away so that we can help.
