Pendle residents are being asked for their views on how their rubbish and recycling should be managed in the future.

Lancashire Waste Partnership - made up of 15 local authorities throughout the county, including Pendle Borough Council - is updating its strategy for managing waste up to 2036.

‘A low waste Lancashire’ considers what happens to recycling and rubbish and sets out the future direction for collection, management and disposal services.

It will aim to:

• Provide an efficient, well-functioning waste system

• Reduce waste and improve recycling rates across Lancashire

• Deliver value for money for residents

Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “The Partnership aims to provide the most efficient waste management service possible for residents.

“The strategy will help Councils to plan services for the longer term, taking into account future housing growth, responding to the needs of the community and other changes such as new laws and policies.

“For the new strategy to be effective, we will be relying on residents to give their views. Therefore, we want as many Pendle residents as possible to have their say on the draft strategy, its vision, objectives and proposed actions.

“Completing this survey will help us to understand what matters to the people of Pendle.”

The feedback from the public consultation will be used to develop the final waste strategy due to be published later this year.

Councillor Zafar Ali, Pendle Borough Council’s Operational Portfolio Holder, added: “The strategy sets out a united, shared vision to reduce rubbish, improve recycling and build a low waste Lancashire that benefits both people and the planet.”
