Pendle Council receives full allocation of £1.5m from Pride in Place Impact Fund

 

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government confirmed the news following a satisfactory review of the Council’s plans, and the process it has used in determining allocation of the funding.

This marks the release of the final 50% of funds for the programme - the first being given to the Council at the launch of the programme in November last year.

The funding will be used to revitalise high streets and public spaces, strengthen community facilities and restore neighbourhood pride in towns and villages across Pendle.

The Council's Area Committees and local Town and Parish Councils were invited to put forward projects that met the Fund's objectives, with projects then being selected by the Council’s Executive in March.

More than 70 projects are to be funded across the borough.

Leader of Pendle Borough Council, Councillor Asjad Mahmood, said: “This is brilliant news that the Government has confirmed the Council’s process for allocating the funding is fundamentally sound and awarded us the full £1.5m funding.

“Most applications have now been received, and Grant Offer Letters have already started to be issued for our communities to begin on their projects.

“The programme is a mixture of schemes to be delivered directly by Pendle Borough Council, some of which are on behalf of Parish and Town Councils which wish to utilise our expertise; while others are to be delivered by external bodies, Town and Parish Councils and a small number of charitable organisations.”

A report providing an update on the progress of the programme will go to the Executive on Thursday.

The first two projects are complete.

New surface edging has been added to the playground at Blacko Recreation Ground

A new piece of play equipment has been installed at the Gregg Stevenson Play Area in Foulridge

Also planned:

• A makeover for the walled garden at Alkincotes Park in Colne
• Improvements to Salterforth Parish War Memorial and refurbishment of the public toilets
• Improvement works at numerous locations in Colne, including the War Memorial, the flag pole area opposite Colne Town Hall and Colne Market
• A skate park and replacement of the wheel park in Barnoldswick
