Temporary Event Notice
Temporary Event Notices can be used to authorise relatively small-scale ad hoc events held in or on any premises involving no more than 499 people at any one time. There are two types of notice:
The premises user must, no later than 10 clear working days before the day on which the event is due to start, give duplicate copies of the notice to the relevant licensing authority, together with the fee of £21.00, one copy of the notice to the relevant Chief of Police and one copy of the notice to Environmental Health.
The premises user must, no later than 5 clear working days but no earlier than 9 clear working days before the event, give duplicate copies of the notice to the relevant licensing authority, together with the fee of £21.00, one copy of the notice to the relevant Chief of Police and one copy of the notice to Environmental Health.
Anyone aged 18 or over, can give a maximum of 5 Temporary Event Notices per calendar year, 2 of which can be Late, and a Personal Licence holder can give a maximum of 50 TENs per calendar year, 10 of which can be Late.
Temporary Event Notices are subject to other maximum limits:
- each event can last up to 168 hours (7 days)
- no more than fifteen TENs can be given in respect of any particular premises in any calendar year
- subject to a maximum aggregate duration of the periods covered by TENs at any individual premises of 21 days in any year
- there must be a minimum of 24 hours between events notified by a premises user or associates of that premises user in respect of the same premises
Provided that the criteria set out above are met, only the Police or Environmental Health may lodge a representation to an event covered by a TEN notice taking place or agree a modification of the arrangements for such an event and only then on the grounds that the event would undermine one or more of the licensing objectives.
