Day long Easter Food Festival with free entertainment and fun competitions all day in Central Colne
COLNE Town Council is making the final arrangements for its Easter Saturday Event and Food Festival, which has lots of free entertainment for all people of all ages.
Once again, we have attracted a large number of entries for our Children’s Egg Decorating Competition - 800, all of which will be displayed on trees on the first floor of the Library. We are grateful to Farmhouse Biscuits for sponsoring the prizes. We also have our children’s Easter Bonnet Competition, which will be judged at noon under the Market Canopy, sponsored by Lloyd’s BMW and Mini and our Seasonal Shop Window Competition. The judge for all three competitions is ceramicist, Julie Miles, who is based at Higherford Mill.
There will be two cookery demonstrations. The first, at 11 a.m. under the Market Canopy is by Mark Taft, the Chef at Nelson and Colne College. In just half an hour he will show us how to make: Smoked Mackerel Pate, and 20 second Chocolate Sponge with Textures of Raspberries. At 2 p.m. also under the Market Canopy, the Seafood Pub Company's executive chef, Antony Shirley, will be demonstrating how to cook: Thai green mussels, Tikka spiced sea bass with yellow split pea dahl and King Prawn Pakoras.
Around 20 stalls on the Parliament Street Car Park (where parking is suspended for the day) and in Hartley Square will tempt us with foody treats, from pies, curries, Mexican and Moroccan food, and cheeses to cupcakes, sweets, fudge, chocolate and ice cream! From 10 a.m. throughout the day Colne will be suffused with musical offerings. There will also be free face painters, storytellers, street entertainers and children’s crafting in the Market, a Children’s Fair on Hartley Square and free donkey rides on Parliament Street Car Park.
There is lots to keep everyone entertained in Colne all day on Saturday. We hope lots of people will join us to enjoy all this traditional Easter day in Colne, which, thanks to the extra Food Festival, should be extra delicious this year.
