Parks and Outdoor Recreation Facilities - Valley Gardens
Valley Gardens Park was first awarded a prestigious Green Flag in 2008, and has maintained its flag ever since. It is close to the centre of town and has pleasant wooded walkways along the side of Butts Beck.
Valley Gardens was once just a dilapidated small open space. However, with the starting of an enthusiastic group of volunteers the park has been transformed into the exciting green-space we have today.
There are six pieces of equipment, including disabled access swings:
- Infant: 3-5 year old
- Junior: 5-14 year old
The playgrounds offer facilities for disabled users.
The park offers picnic benches on the grassed area next to the river.
Valley Gardens incorporates a great number of habitats in a small area which in turn supports a wide variety of wildlife including some very welcome bird species such as Dunnocks, Sparrows, Chaffinch and Goldcrest. Working closely with the Park Keeper Service the Working Group are ensuring a bright and varied future for the park, with plans to further improve the space for wildlife and the surrounding community. Valley Gardens stands as a proud example of ourselves and the public working together to make things better.
Many of the footpaths and walkways in the park are suitable for people with low mobility.
The playground offers facilities for disabled users.
Valley Gardens has a very active Working Group who works alongside us maintaining the high standard of the park and help organise events and activities within the park itself.
Car parking is available on the public highways surrounding the park.
