Trafalgar House consultation

We are consulting on the future of Trafalgar House in Nelson, and we want to know what you think.

Trafalgar House is the building on Market Street next to Nelson Town Hall, which we bought recently.

It was originally built as the Nelson Technical School and more recently used by Nelson & Colne College and Lancashire County Council. It has now been vacant for a number of years.

The building has an attractive front but is in a poor state of repair.

We are working with David Morley Architects, who have put together a long list of options for the future of the building, including options to repair, partially demolish, or redevelop the building.

The options have been considered against a number of factors such as market demand and affordability, and a shortlist has been drawn up. Options on the shortlist include:

  • repairing the building and converting it into housing and commercial use
  • partial demolition and redevelopment for housing and commercial use
  • partial demolition to create additional town centre parking with charging points for electric vehicles

All of the options on the shortlist propose keeping the attractive front of the building which is on Market Street.

How can I have my say?

The consultation is open now until Thursday 1 September. To give us your views you need to:

Your views will then be considered when deciding upon the final option. It’s important we work together to create something which really meets Nelson's needs.

Drop-in session

If you want to view the options and have your say in person, then come to our drop-in session on Friday 26 August between 10.30am and 3pm at Nelson Town Hall.

Final options will be decided in the coming months and will be subject to financial viability and planning permission.
