Tackling Unemployment Project

Looking for friendly FREE advice on getting back to work? We can offer a helping hand!

Whatever your level of skills, training or qualifications we can help to match you with companies looking for new employees.

Who are we?

Tackling Unemployment Project was set up by Pendle Council in 1997 offering employment support through offering CV and job-search help and helping to secure jobs by offering employers wage subsidies. The project has since evolved into a team of five Employment Mentors who work with unemployed people from all backgrounds in Pendle by providing them with an invaluable information, advice and support service to remove barriers to work.

What we do.....

We provide information, advice and guidance to support people back into work. So basically we do everything we need to help you find a job; whether it's making you a CV or filling out application forms, helping you to access training or get you through that all important interview.

All mentors are experienced and hold information, advice and guidance qualifications. The service is also Matrix accredited.

Help is available to anyone who is unemployed or under threat of redundancy and is resident in Pendle. We work on a one-to-one basis and there is no charge for our services.

We can also provide a bi-lingual service for non-English speakers and there are also training grants available.

Meet the Team

Roger

A graduate of the University of Bangor, Roger started as Project Coordinator in 2003 and also looks after the Environmental Action Group.

He has over ten years experience in the third sector having previously worked for Groundwork in Manchester and Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Roger's main role is to manage both projects and he also spends a large part of his role mentoring people who access our services.

Khalda

Khalda has worked for Tackling Unemployment since its inception and previously worked as an NVQ Trainer/Assessor for the local college.

She works more closely with clients with a language barrier and develops work placement and training opportunities for them.

Recent projects include providing voluntary placement opportunities and successfully placing clients in work with a local college.

Halima

Halima started as a mentor on the "Engage" project in 2005 after graduating with an honours degree in English.

Prior to this she gained over seven years of experience in both the third and private sector. Working specifically with people who are struggling with the English language, she can provide more one to one support to help them resolve any issues they might have in getting back to work.

Halima also delivers CV workshops to external community groups and works with them to increase their capacity for dealing with clients from minority communities.

Diane

Diane joined the Team in 2008 after having worked in the private sector in various administrative and support roles.

After a one year secondment as an outreach worker at Nelson Job Centre, Diane was inspired to work in the community.

Diane's role also includes coordinating the Pendle Employability Network and she also organises training courses such as Food Safety and First Aid.

Tammie

The newest member of the team Tammie joined us in 2010 after working as an Adviser at Nelson Job Centre for ten years. A familiar face in the local community, Tammie has also worked for Job Centre Plus across East Lancashire and is an active member of the local community promoting fair trade. Tammie's role is to work with clients to help remove any barriers to work and she also delivers 'Money Management' training.

Imtiaz

Imtiaz joined us from Bradford Metropolitan Council in 2008 after working for over ten years in training and human resources in the private sector.

Imtiaz's role as Employer Engagement Officer is to connect with local businesses to provide support services such as networking, marketing and financial support. He also generates employment leads for local job seekers and encourages businesses to sign the Employment Charter.

Imtiaz has also been a key player in delivering the Council and NHS joint initiative to roll out mental health first aid training across Burnley and Pendle.
