Making a Planning Application
Applying for Planning Permission
Before you start any development work to a building, you may need to apply for planning permission.
We have produced a list of frequently asked questions which you may find useful.
Note: From 6 April 2008, The National Standard Planning Application Form (1APP) changed the way planning applications are submitted to all planning authorities in England and will be the only legal way of submitting a planning application. This means there will be one standard application form for each type of proposal.
You must submit applications using the 1APP forms or online via the planning portal. You must comply with the requirements as set out in the National and Local Requirements Checklist for any given application type.
Design and Access Statements
Most types of application must now be submitted with a design and access statement. The Statement (if required) is an essential part of a planning application. Statements that do not address all the issues set out in guidance will not be accepted and the application will not be considered valid.
Submitting your application
The quickest and easiest way of submitting your application is online by logging on to the National Planning Portal (opens in new window). Register your details, logon and choose 'Pendle' as the local authority before making your application.
Please note you must submit the correct form and if required a Design and Access Statement. If all the required infrmation is not submitted your application will not be validated and this can cause you delay.
Search planning applications, view weekly lists and submit comments
You can view existing planning applications, appeals and related documents/plans via Planning Application Weekly Lists
Remember that planning permission is a separate matter to building regulation approval. Have a look at our permissions guide, which will help you identify whether you need planning permission, building regulation approval or both
