What is the SHMA?
The Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) covers the joint housing market area of Burnley and Pendle. The SHMA provides a detailed picture of the need for new types of housing in Burnley and Pendle and forms a key part of the LDF evidence base. The assessment is designed to meet the requirements of national Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing, specifically paragraph 22. It sets out
- the likely overall proportions of households that require market or affordable housing;
- the likely profile of household types requiring market housing; and
- the size and type of affordable housing required in the area.
Current status of the SHMA
The SHMA was formally adopted by the Council on 22nd May 2008. You can view a copy of the final, adopted report from the download section below.
Previous work stages
The SHMA was commissioned in mid-2007. Fieldwork for gathering household survey information was carried out in the third quarter of 2007. The analysis, report writing and editing was carried out in late 2007 and early 2008.
