Appeals - Council tax benefit
Anyone who has claimed Council Tax Benefit and disagrees with the decision made in their assessment can challenge a decision. If you think the decision is wrong, you can ask us to explain it.
If you still think it's wrong after we have explained it to you, you can ask us to reconsider it. You will need to do this, in writing or by completing an online form.
Online services: Complete an online form to appeal against a housing benefit or council tax benefit decision
Additional information: Once we have received your letter we will ensure that a different officer looks at your claim again. We will then send you a letter to confirm the original decision or amend your entitlement.
If you are still not satisfied you can also appeal to an independent tribunal who can change the decision if they agree that it is wrong. The tribunal is administered by the appeals service www.appeals-service.gov.uk (!)
There is a time limit of one calendar month from the date of the decision, to ask for decisions to be looked at again and for appealing.
