Dog Warden Service

The  Council has a dog warden service which promotes and monitors responsible dog ownership, enforces dog fouling and dog nuisance legislation and deals with stray dogs.

Dogs should not be left to roam the streets - it's unfair to them and to you. Dogs whose owners cannot be identified via the animal's collar and tag are taken to a local kennel and must be claimed within seven days, otherwise they will be rehomed or destroyed.

If you have lost or think you have lost your dog please contact the Dog Warden service immediately. Always keep a collar and tag on your dog. The Dog Warden service also deals with the enforcement of dog fouling legislation and offers education services via school talks.

Additional information: The Environmental Protection Act requires the finder of a stray dog to:

  • Return the dog to its owner;or
  • contact the local authority for the area in which the dog was found.
