We welcome petitions and recognise that they are one way in which people can let us know their concerns.

All petitions sent or presented to the Council will receive an acknowledgement within 10 working days of receipt. This will tell you what we plan to do with the petition.

What is a Petition?

We will treat something as a petition if it is identified as being a petition, or if it seems to us that it is intended to be a petition.

Where to Send a Paper Petition

Paper petitions should be sent to:

Committee Services
Town Hall
Market Street
Nelson
BB9 7 LG

Online Petitions

Alternatively, you can create a petition, sign it and submit it online. This is known as an "e-petition".

Presenting Your Petition at a Council Meeting

Petitions can be presented in person to a meeting of the Council, the executive or one of our committees.

If you would like to present your petition to a meeting, or would like your councillor or someone else to present it on your behalf, please contact Committee Services on committee@pendle.gov.uk or on 01282 661648 at least 10 working days before the meeting and they will talk you through the process.

If your petition has received 100 signatures or more it will also be scheduled for a Full Council debate, and if this is the case we will let you know whether this will happen at the same meeting or a later meeting of the Council.

What if I Have a Question?

If you have any questions about your petition you can contact us by telephone or email at committee@pendle.gov.uk or on 01282 661648.

You can download a full copy of these petition guidelines on our Feedback Online website in PDF format.
