Can you help our families reach their dreams?

A programme of activities which encourages young people and their families to reach their full potential is getting underway.
Claire Grimshaw has been appointed to lead on this exciting work which aims to improve the lives and aspirations of residents in parts of Nelson and Colne.
As Inspiring Communities Co-ordinator, Claire will be working closely with young people and their families to encourage them to believe in themselves and be the best that they can, regardless of their background.
And she's looking for local role models - people who live or work in Pendle who've got an inspiring story about how they've got to where they are today.
"We want to raise aspirations and educational success in Pendle by encouraging youngsters to make the most of their time in school or college.
"And by working with their parents we're hoping that it will also build their self-confidence too, Claire explained.
She added: "Local people are often the best role models because they may have experienced what our families are going through now.
"Please get in touch with me if you think you could help us to make sure our families reach their full potential.
"We want to create new opportunities so that our communities really can dare to dream!"
Pendle's Children's Trust, an arm of Pendle Partnership, received £375,000 from the Inspiring Communities Grant Programme to lead on the activities locally.
The activities will focus on raising hopes and aspirations, working closely with schools and colleges, Pendle Council, voluntary, community and faith organisations, local residents and businesses.
Councillor John David, Chairman of Pendle Partnership, said: "We're passionate about improving the lives and aspirations of local people.
"And this fantastic scheme will help us to fulfil our pledge of making the borough a better place to live, learn, work play and visit.
"If young people believe they're never going to achieve anything, then it's possible they won't.
"But we'll show them that they can, and if they believe in themselves they've taken the first crucial step."
Lyn Surgeon, Inspiring Communities Campaign Lead and Principal of Nelson and Colne College, added:
"The contribution of local people, such as employers, business people and educators, who can act as mentors and role models, is essential to the success of this important programme.
"If you're interested in making a positive contribution to the community you live in, Inspiring Communities will provide you with the opportunity to make a real difference to the future lives of children, young people and parents in Pendle".
