National Championship Cycling Circuit Endorsed by Gold Medallist

Top cyclists were in Pendle on Saturday to try out the course that will be used for the British Cycling National Road Race Championship race later this year.
"It's grippy, twisty and turny and it'll be a right slog!"
That's how Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman summed up the British Cycling National Road Race Championship circuit in Pendle this Saturday.
"It wasn't an easy ride - nor should it be - for what will be the biggest single day of the British race season!
So agreed Brian Cookson, President of British Cycling and Pendle Council's Director for Regeneration.
Brian rode alongside the cycling champion on the 7.5 mile circuit around Barley and Roughlee with other top UK cyclists.
"We just did one lap, but the plan is that the Elite Men will do 15 laps and the Elite Women 8 laps," he added.
Chris Boardman explained:
"The hills come one after another. It's a climbers' event and will be one of the most gripping for years!"
Chris added "It'll be a spectacular event. It will be a fantastic day to come to Pendle and have a picnic."
Pendle cyclist Paul Oldham from Trawden who represented Great Britain at the World Cyclo-Cross Championships this year said:
"The climbs are quite tough and very long."
Geoff Cowley, Managing Director of race sponsor Pendle's own cottages4you said:
"It was a wonderful day and the views of Pendle Hill and the surrounding hills were stunning.
"Pendle is going to look amazing when the big race is televised on Sunday 27 June.
"It will bring thousands of new visitors which will be good for local tourism and the route goes through some of Pendle's award winning best kept villages.

Councillor John David, Leader of Pendle Council said:
"Since the public meeting earlier this month, organisers have been working flat out to help sort out any problems residents may have because of the road closure for the big race on Sunday 27 June.
"For example, we are working with families with elderly relatives needing care to make sure that carers are safely escorted across the circuit.
"We consider it a top priority to help minimise any problems residents have as a result of the race."
"However the important thing is to see this as an opportunity for a great day out for everyone and a way of putting Pendle on the map.
We want to make sure the benefits to residents and local businesses are maximised. There are going to be lots of opportunities for catering, self catering cottages B&Bs and so on.
"For instance, we are also working with farmers who want to provide camping or car parking at the event," he added.
"Anyone with questions or concerns or who'd like to get involved can call the Council on (01282) 661661.
