NWDA Chair visits Pendle

Ambitious plans to improve Pendle will be highlighted during a high profile visit from the organisation responsible for the region’s development and regeneration.

Robert Hough, Chairman of the Northwest Development Agency, will visit Pendle on Tuesday February 2 for an introduction to the borough, looking at sites of past and future development.

The meeting is being hosted by Pendle Vision Board, the economic arm of Pendle Partnership, which brings together key business leaders and aims to boost the local economy.

Dennis Mendoros OBE DL, FRAeS, Chairman of Pendle Vision Board, will be joined by Councillor John David , Council Leader and Chairman of Pendle Partnership; Stephen Barnes , Chief Executive of Pendle Council; Brian Cookson, Executive Director (Regeneration) for Pendle Council and Tim Webber, Vice Chairman of Pendle Vision, to outline recent achievements and highlight the challenges locally.

Dennis said: "Since 1995 we've seen a staggering investment of £180m.

"Flagship projects include Nelson's state-of-the-art bus and rail interchange, the ACE Centre, Memorial Square , Yarnspinners Health Centre, Number One Market Street and West Craven Business Park ."

He explained that major new projects include the redevelopment of Nelson Town Centre to allow shoppers to drive and park on Manchester Road .

Councillor John David added: "We're thrilled that Robert Hough is visiting Pendle.

"One of the Council's goals, led by Pendle Partnership, is to create a borough which has a vibrant, competitive and healthy local economy.

"We've been working extremely hard to determine the best ways to achieve this. I'm confident that the sites we've identified will reap investment and prosperity creating jobs and opportunities."

Programme

During his visit Robert Hough will be given a walking tour of Nelson taking in:

  • ACE Centre
  • Memorial Square and Market Street
  • Manchester/Leeds/Scotland Road
  • The old library in Booth Street
  • New bus and rail interchange
  • Pendle Rise Shopping Centre
  • Wavelengths and the Inside Spa
  • Whitefield

 This will be followed by a minibus tour of:

  • Lomeshaye Industrial Estate
  • Brierfield Mills
  • Lob Lane Mill and canal corridor
  • Vantage Court ( Riverside Business Park )
  • Nelson & Colne College
  • Walshaw House - NHS East Lancashire's new HQ
  • Discover Pendle
