Funding for Brierfield and Reedley

Published Wednesday 27th January 10

Pendle Council has received £60,000 from Connecting Communities as part of a drive to boost those areas worst hit by the recession.

The funding also aims to make sure that residents can have a greater say on local issues.

But most importantly it will make sure residents are listened to and know that their views are being considered.

Brierfield and Reedley have joined more than 161 areas across England which are now taking part in the Connecting Communities programme.

"Results from a recent survey highlighted that some residents have low satisfaction levels about Pendle as a place to live, in particular in these areas."

Helen Wilkinson, Research and Policy Office r, explained: "Less than half of residents who took part in the survey were satisfied with Brierfield and Reedley as a place to live.

"And less than 40% believed that people from different backgrounds get on well together in their local area.

"This is alarming considering the ethnic diversity in the area."

Pendle Council, along with other statutory, community and voluntary sector organisations are keen to make real and lasting changes.

They're working hard to increase satisfaction and improve the quality of life for people in these areas and Pendle as a whole.

Sara Mumby, Neighbourhood Manager for Brierfield and Reedley, added:

"Now the funding has been received, we can start the work plan.

"We'll build on the work we're doing to bring together local people and organisations to increase opportunities and improve access to public services.

"To make sure we make the best use of the money available, we'll start by using our Community Researchers to find out how we can make a difference in Brierfield and Reedley."
