The redevelopment of Lob Lane Mill in Brierfield is one step closer, following last night’s Executive Meeting at Pendle Council.

The redevelopment of Lob Lane Mill in Brierfield is one step closer, following last night's Executive Meeting at Pendle Council.

Members agreed that the Council and PEARL2 (the Council's joint venture company with Barnfield Investment Properties) should work in partnership to create 53 homes on the site of the 19th Century mill.

If planning permission is granted, the multi-million pound development will see the canalside warehouse transformed into ten four-bedroomed houses and one three-bedroomed house.

This will ensure the historical features of this conversation area are preserved.

The rest of the derelict site will feature 42 newly built homes - made up of 30 three-bedroomed houses and 12 two-bedroomed apartments.

The scheme will be paid for by Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, the new company whose remit includes Housing Market Renewal (HMR) work and which replaces Elevate East Lancashire.

Councillor Tony Greaves, Pendle Council's expert on Housing Market Renewal, said:

"This is really good news.

"It's a big step forward for Brierfield and for Pendle."

It's hoped the first stage of demolition will be done by March 2011.

Brian Cookson, Pendle Council's Regeneration Director, stressed:

"We'd like to retain as many features as possible."
