Creative Pendle Vale students promote Pendle Business Awards 2010

Pendle Business Awards 2010 will recognise our innovative local companies which despite the pressures of the recession are still flourishing.

It's being jointly organised by Pendle Vision and Pendle Council and they've taken up this unique opportunity to work with Rock FM and invest in the talent and creativity of local students.

Eight students from Pendle Vale College met with Pendle Vision Board on November 30 to learn about the Business Awards.

They will then create and develop fresh, dynamic commercials which are professionally produced and broadcast on Rock FM.

Dennis Mendoros, OBE, DL, FRAeS is Chairman of Pendle Vision and Managing Director of Euravia Engineering and Supply Co Ltd.

He said: "We're really keen to make sure that our young people gain vital experience, life-skills and qualifications which will help them get jobs later in life.

"Days @ Rock FM helps us to do just that and we're really excited about seeing the talent we have here in Pendle!"

Stuart Heaton, Education Account Manager at Rock FM, added: "This is an innovative scheme which brings schools and businesses across Lancashire together.

"It will give youngsters experience in business development and on air and online production.

"By engaging youngsters in unique and interesting projects, we hope to encourage better school attendance, help them work together as a team and gain a greater understanding of a work-related environment."

Julie Sutcliffe, Year 8 Progress and Development Leader for Pendle Vale College, said: "I'm thrilled that we're able to take part in this fantastic scheme.

"Our students are really excited about learning new skills, particularly in the media, and I know they'll all do really well."

Pendle Business Awards 2010 will be held at the Arts, Culture and Enterprise (ACE) Centre in Nelson on April 23.

Between January 11 and February 5 businesses will be able to apply for awards online on http://www.pendle.gov.uk/ or http://www.pendlevision.org/

Information will be available on these websites from December 1.

Councillor Allan Buck, who has responsibility for Economic Development, said: "Pendle Business Awards, one of Lancashire's most prestigious business events, is back.

"And linking in with Pendle's future talent is a great way to get the message out there!"

He added: "We want to make sure we recognise the best of Pendle's companies, so if you have something to shout about, we want to hear from you.

"This time we have 11 categories to choose from and you can enter all the awards that you fit the criteria for.

"Winners will receive a Pendle - an elegant glass and metal sculpture inspired by Pendle Hill, engraved with their name and the award category. And all shortlisted businesses will receive a framed certificate."
