Local residents win vouchers

Published Friday 16th October 09

Two visitors to Pendle events have won Marks and Spencer’s gift vouchers in a prize draw.

Mrs Marie Fare from Ramsbottom is the winner of a £50 gift voucher, won at the Trawden Show.

And Julie Briggs from Brierfield, who visited Pendle Canal Festival, is the winner of a £30 gift voucher.

Councillor Allan Buck, who represents economic development and tourism, said:

"Both the Pendle Canal Festival and the Trawden Show are big events in the tourism calendar.

"They were both very successful events with lots of activities for all ages.

"What's really pleasing is that they were popular with Pendle residents, and attracted people from further afield to come and see what our area has to offer."

Vaughan Jones, Pendle Council's Tourism Manager, said:

"With tourism currently worth £75million a year to Pendle and employing some 1,200 people, it's very important that we get our events strategy right.

"By people actually telling us, through questionnaires at events, we know exactly where people are coming from, staying overnight, eating out and how they get here!

"We urge all events organisers to let us have this kind of information so that we are better placed to bid for national and international events to come to Pendle."

With 'staycations' becoming ever more popular in these economic times, Pendle is extremely well placed to build on its attendance figures at events.

Vaughan added:

"The fact that our two winners are 'local' is unusual. But I'm sure that they'll now be fine ambassadors around the country, with their family and friends, to tell people what a great place Pendle is!"

Both winners will be presented with their prizes by Councillor Buck in Discover Pendle at Boundary Mill on 29th October.
