Pendle Council commits to cutting carbon emissions by the end of 2010

Pendle Council has signed up to the 10:10 climate change campaign.
This national campaign encourages companies, local authorities and individuals to cut their carbon emissions by 10% by the end of 2010.
Councillors made the decision to sign up to 10:10 at the Full Council meeting on 24 September.
Councillor Graham Roach is the chairman of Pendle Council's Climate Change Working Group. He said :
"I'm very confident that we can cut our carbon emissions by 10%.
"To our knowledge we are the first council in Lancashire to sign up to 10:10.
"For some time now, as a council, we've been addressing our impact on the environment. We know that we generated 1,700 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2008.
"We have a climate change strategy with real, achievable actions in it to help reduce the Council's carbon footprint.
"And we're already making progress.
"Our new fleet of Council vehicles are kinder to the environment. Plus we need fewer of them, now that we've moved to the brown bin recycling collections."
To help cuts its carbon emissions during 2010, Pendle Council will:
Install energy efficient heating and other measures in some council buildings
Train Pendle frontline staff on giving advice to residents about energy efficient measures in the home
Introduce a travel plan to encourage our staff to car share, use public transport or cycle to get to work
Install 'green' energy sources in community venues
Deliver climate change workshops in local schools.
Councillor Roach added :
"I hope us signing up to 10:10 encourages our staff and Pendle residents to do the same."
